Air out of ball for most SEC quarterbacks this season
Four SEC quarterbacks are among the top 20 nationally in passing efficiency — Auburn’s Cam Newton (No. 2), Mallett (No. 8), Alabama’s Greg McElroy (No. 11) and South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia (No. 16) — and nine of the conference’s 12 starters are completing 60 percent of their passes or better.
But conference signal-callers not named Mallett haven’t put up huge numbers in terms of yardage. Arkansas and Kentucky are the only SEC teams in the top 40 in the country in passing offense, and only three SEC quarterbacks — Mallett, Kentucky’s Mike Hartline and Georgia’s Aaron Murray — are averaging more than 200 passing yards a game for the season.
