Spurrier Eager For Next Showdown With Saban

Steve Spurrier appreciates why ESPN College GameDay will be in Columbia this week – to check in on Alabama, the No. 1 team in the nation.

However, the opportunity to watch Spurrier, still considered one of the preeminent offensive minds anywhere, and Alabama head coach Nick Saban match wits for 60 minutes in what should be a rocking Williams-Brice Stadium was probably an enticing story line as well.

Spurrier and Saban have locked horns three times in the past with the former holding a 2-1 lead over the latter. Both of Spurrier’s wins came when he was the head coach at Florida. He’s 0-2 against the Tide since taking the USC reins in 2005.
