BYU considering going independent in football

BYU football will become an independent program in 2011, with the other Cougars sports programs moving to the WAC, sources have confirmed for the Salt Lake Tribune.
The source in the WAC office says BYU will seek final approval from the Church of Latter-day Saints either today or Thursday. A press conference will follow and had been planned for next week. However, the leaks that came out starting Tuesday could move up that timetable.
“In light of the media leaks, it may be expedited a bit,” the source told The Tribune.
