Byrne began informing co-workers of his departure early Monday and told the entire staff at an 8:45 a.m. meeting. Football coach Dan Mullen said Byrne was “very emotional” when he told him about his decision shortly before the staff meeting.
Byrne wouldn’t comment Monday.
