LSU coach Les Miles shot down the notion Monday that sophomore backup quarterback Jarrett Lee will get on the field as a designed part of the game plan this week when the ninth-ranked Tigers (5-1, 3-1) entertain Auburn (5-2, 2-2) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2).
Asked if there was any discussion of Lee playing a series or two, Miles put in a plug for starter Jordan Jefferson.
“I like the development of our quarterback who is currently our starter,” Miles said. “I think Jarrett Lee is competing every day. I think he competed extremely well in the open week.
“I think the opportunity for him to come in and play certainly may arise. There is no preconceived notion at this point.”
Jefferson was in Lee’s shoes last season, waiting and watching for the first 10 1/2 games. So he understands what it’s like to be eagerly awaiting a chance.
“Whenever the opportunity comes, I know the coaches will give him a chance,” Jefferson said. “I know if I go down, Jarrett will come into the game and be effective.
“He’s really learned his lesson about last year. Ball control was the main thing he had trouble with, and I think he’s overcome some bad habits.”
