USC No. 6 in mock BCS standings
In advance of the first official BCS standings Sunday, ESPN’s Brad Edwards has done the math for what the standings would look like if released today, and USC ends up 6th.
Edwards says this about whether an 11-1 USC team would eclipse 12-0 Boise State: “The Trojans would be slightly behind Boise State right now, but because of the difference between those teams in schedule strength the rest of the way, USC should have little concern about an 11-1 final record being enough to jump the Broncos.”
It will be interesting to see how the BCS standings treat Oregon, which is ranked significantly higher in the AP poll and the ESPN.com’s Power Rankings — 13th in both — than the coaches poll (16th).
The coaches poll and the Harris Poll (Oregon is 14th) — both anonymous — count in the BCS standings.
That means this sort of incompetence can exist without challenge.
