Big mistake by Louisiana Tech’s Derek Dooley

Derek Dooley gives instructions to his Louisiana Tech team early in Saturday’s loss to Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. (The Birmingham News / Hal Yeager)
If I’m Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley, I’m kicking myself in the backside all the way back to Rushton, La., for not kicking the ball deep with 23 seconds to go in the first half against Auburn.
OK, so it probably wouldn’t have made a difference in the Bulldogs’ 37-13 loss. But after managing to tie the game 10-10, Louisiana Tech decided to kick the ball high and short, allowing Auburn to take over at its own 39. Two plays later, the Tigers’ Wes Byrum kicked a 49-yard field goal as the first half expired.
