Longtime Steeler shows sound judgment

Far too many athletes these days wind up in front of a judge.
Here’s one who wound up becoming one.

Dwayne Woodruff, a former defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is here supporting his old teammate and practice foe John Stallworth in his annual celebrity golf tournament that provides scholarships for Alabama A&M students.
Woodruff played 12 seasons for the Steelers and was the team MVP in 1982. He was a rookie on the Super Bowl XIV team, the Pittsburgh team that beat the Rams as Stallworth caught a 73-yard TD pass for the go-ahead score.
Woodruff figured he’d only play five years in the NFL, then go into the real world. Former Steelers coach Chuck Noll had a consistent message for his players that they should prepare themselves for life off the field. Woodruff admitted “after my first year or so I was thinking what I wanted to do after football.”
