Q&A with Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn

Q: Gene Chizik has said he doesn’t want people to have “illusions of grandeur” about the 2009 team. Do you feel the need to manage expectations for the offense, so fans don’t expect 800 yards on Day 1?

A: I’ve been saying this all along: This is a situation where we’re coming in new. Our goal is to improve each game. … Depth is definitely an issue. We’ve got to recruit to get better depth. At the same time, we’re recruiting specifically for this offense, so you should see it grow as the years move on to exactly what we want to see on Saturday.

Q: At offensive line especially, avoiding injuries will be so important. Does that lack of depth affect the way you approach practice?
