OXFORD — What was supposed to be an afternoon of celebration for the Ole Miss men’s tennis program ended with coach Billy Chadwick blankly staring at a brick wall in downtown Oxford, trying to digest the stunning bad news he had just received.
“I haven’t been this surprised,” Chadwick said, “in a long, long time.”
The unexpected news was this: Ole Miss, which received the No. 2 overall national seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, was not one of 16 teams that would host the first two rounds because of NCAA-imposed travel restrictions.
