Tar Heels went down this road after the 2005 title
The last time North Carolina lost four stars in one draft to the NBA, there was much despair among Tar Heel followers.
So thick was the anxiety that many of those fans couldn’t fully enjoy the 2005 national championship delivered by Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants, Sean May and Marvin Williams, among others.
To a degree, that same mood even surfaced in the team’s locker room.
“We’ve got to reinvent ourselves in record time,” then-senior David Noel said a few days before the opening game of 2005-06. “It’s not going to be easy, because we’ve just lost so much. But don’t count us out.”
