Spurrier won’t comment on Fulmer speculation
When he was at Florida, Steve Spurrier had his battles with Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer during the 1990s. But with Fulmer’s job in jeopardy, Spurrier declined to add to the speculation Tuesday.
“Well, I got my own problems right here trying to score a touchdown or two,” Spurrier said. “But, nah, he got a new contract last year, so I thought, certainly, that coach Fulmer would be safe for several years to come. But I don’t know anything more than that. Just what you read in the paper.”
Two of the Gamecocks’ final four regular-season opponents are embroiled in coaching dramas; Clemson is searching for a replacement for Tommy Bowden. But USC defensive tackle Nate Pepper said players detach themselves from those situations.
