RB Dixon (pow!) QB Lee (zap!) help kickstart Bulldogs’ offense
STARKVILLE – This was better. Much better.
Anthony Dixon scored three touchdowns, and Mississippi State hit the big plays it had been missing in previous games, and it added up to a 31-22 win over Middle Tennessee State on Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium.
MSU (3-5) found itself behind 16-14 early in the third quarter, but Dixon and quarterback Tyson Lee kickstarted the offense and helped the Bulldogs post a season high in points against Division I-A competition.
Dixon rushed for a season-high 126 yards on 27 carries, while Lee passed for 197 yards and ran for 46 more.
“There’s a lot of relief, because you’ve got Anthony Dixon and Tyson back there in the backfield, so there ain’t no telling what can happen,” said wide receiver Brandon McRae. “It’s like a dynamic duo or something back there.”
This was a much-needed boost for an MSU offense that scored only three points the previous week against Tennessee and had scored only 53 points over its last five games.
It wasn’t a breeze.
