Gamecocks focused on self as LSU lurks
COLUMBIA — There is no real talk in the locker room of the University of South Carolina football team about beating the defending national champion when Louisiana State comes to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday for a nationally televised 8 p.m. contest on ESPN.
That doesn’t mean the Gamecocks aren’t wanting to win their fifth straight game, but their focus is just on trying to play their best game possible and hope that is enough to knock of the No. 13 Tigers.
“This is a key game for us and LSU is a big-name team,” USC head coach Steve Spurrier said on Tuesday at his weekly press luncheon. “But we aren’t focusing on anything like we did against Georgia when we said we’d never beaten a No. 2 team (which Georgia was ranked at the time they beat USC 14-7.)
