I know what you’re thinking: Slow down. Auburn’s backup quarterback is not on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy (or, for that matter, transferring to Jacksonville State). And the Tigers are a long way from following Florida and LSU to become the third consecutive SEC team to claim the national championship.
But with Burns now firmly entrenched as the athletic, change-of-pace backup to starter Chris Todd, Auburn has discovered the formula that has been ultra-successful for teams that insist on having two quarterbacks in the game plan every week.
