OXFORD — Junior Cordera Eason knows all about the three freshman running backs who have impressed during preseason camp.

But Eason spent his Saturday evening making some good impressions of his own.

The 5-foot-10, 224-pound running back had several big runs during a scrimmage at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, including a 27-yard touchdown.

“My line made a big hole and made it look easy for me,” Eason said. “I’m doing everything I can to hold onto my position.”

Eason had missed much of the last three practices because of an abscessed tooth, which was one reason he received a handful of carries during the scrimmage.

“I’ve admired his toughness – his work ethic,” Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said. “He knew those three freshmen were talented, but he’s been steady for us. He’s just got to keep going.”

The three freshmen – Brandon Bolden, Devin Thomas and Enrique Davis – all had some good moments on Saturday as well.

When asked how many running backs he would use this season, Nutt said it was too early to tell. “I really like a stable of them,” Nutt said. “When you just keep being able to say ‘Next’ and keep those legs fresh.”
Injury report

Backup cornerback Jeremy McGee had to be helped off the field after suffering a concussion, but that appeared to be the only major injury of the evening. …

Receiver Shay Hodge missed the scrimmage because of a funeral for a family member. Other players in the two-deep out of practice included WR Mike Wallace (hamstring), DE Chris Bowers (knee), FB Jason Cook (ankle), DT Jason Sanders (ankle) and OG Reid Neely (Achilles).
