Athletic budget to profit from new deal – MSU
Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne said the school’s recently signed 10-year multimedia rights deal with Dallas-based Learfield Sports will “be very helpful to the athletic department’s financial future.”
And these days in college sports, that’s becoming more and more important – especially when competing in the Southeastern Conference, where MSU’s $34 million athletic budget is near the bottom of the 12-team league.
MSU declined to release financial details of the deal with Learfield, but the guaranteed money will be used to help pay the salaries of new baseball coach John Cohen, football coach Sylvester Croom and men’s basketball coach Rick Stansbury.
