New laws take effect including elected superintendents

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 1, 2016

New Mississippi laws cover education, abortion, other issues

One allows students who live in C, D or F-rated districts to attend charter schools in another district.

Another makes this the final four-year term for elected school superintendents. Starting in 2019, all superintendents will be appointed.

Medicaid will be banned from spending money with any health care provider that offers abortions. A procedure called dilation and evacuation is being outlawed, unless an abortion is required to prevent irreversible physical harm to the pregnant woman.
