Bill Minor: State GOP makes school funding partisan
State GOP leaders couldn’t resist injecting partisan politics into the vital question before voters Nov. 3: whether or not state lawmakers will have to fully fund Mississippi’s Adequate Education Program formula.
Lawmakers have failed to do that for 16 of MAEP’s 18 years on the law books. So education advocates in the state decided to seek a stronger tool, namely a constitutional mandate, something many states have had for years….

…Sadly, because state lawmakers have not adequately funded the system, the only recourse is to get a court-supported mandate to force them to fulfill their legal duty.
