Jackson mayoral election set for April 8
Lumumba’s family exploring ‘all possible causes’ of death; police say no probe requested
Jackson residents will vote for a new mayor in roughly one month, the City Council authorized.
The mayoral special election date, scheduled for April 8, was set in accordance with state law, said city attorney Gail Lowery. A runoff election — if needed — would be April 22.
The City Council was tasked with scheduling a special election following the Feb. 25 death of Mayor Chokwe Lumumba. State statute requires the election be held no less than 30 days or no more than 45 days from the council’s meeting.
