Alternative gun rights group National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) endorsed Chris McDaniel today. NAGR is a self-styled more conservative alternative to the National Rifle Association. Sen. Thad Cochran maintains an A-rating from the NRA and is generally seen as a rock-solid vote on 2nd Amendment issues.
Their endorsement would imply they have a burr in their saddle about Cochran.
“With the Second Amendment under constant attack, gun owners in Mississippi cannot afford a representative in Congress who won’t do more than cast a yea or nay vote on the floor of the Senate. Gun owners need a leader that will fight tooth-and-nail to make sure that anti-gun legislation doesn’t even make it to the floor in the first place,” said Dudley Brown, executive director of NAGR-PAC.
In April 2013, NAGR published a litmus test of votes. Of their 6 litmus test gun votes, Cochran voted with NAGR 5 of 6 times. Interestingly, only Mike Lee in the US Senate voted their preferred votes all 6 times. Cochran voted identically to Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).
