Legislator wants to end public advertising featuring elected officials
State Rep. Bob Evans, D-Monticello, is again trying to stop state officials from appearing in or being heard in state-sponsored public advertising, saying the ads amount to taxpayers chipping in on re-election campaigns.
Evans, D-Monticello, said House Bill 15 wouldn’t prohibit a state official from participating in the development, planning or implementation of advertising as long as the person doesn’t appear in the actual ad. Last year, similar legislation died in committee.
“I just don’t think it’s right,” Evans said. “It’s just another way to stick hands into taxpayers’ money. I don’t think it’s proper expenditure of taxpayers’ money.”
Evans cited Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and a couple others specifically.
