DEMOCRATS TURN THEIR BACKS ON VETERANSWASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) issued the following statement in support of tonight’s effort by House Republicans to fund veterans’ benefits and keep our national parks open:

“This vote should have been a no-brainer. We unanimously passed a bill to fund active duty troops; how can the Democrats deny funding veterans’ benefits and keeping our national memorials open? This morning, I witnessed over 90 Mississippi World War II veterans go through a park service blockade to see their memorial, and veterans all over America are concerned about what the shutdown may do to them. Partisan games should not get in the way of honoring and supporting the people who fought for our freedom.”

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi’s First Congressional District. He serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Budget Committee. This is his second term.
