Hattiesburg American – Ware left off ballot in some districts
There were two mayoral election lawsuits filed in Forrest County Circuit Court in late June. You may remember one, Ware v. DuPree that caused a lot of hullabaloo and led eventually to a new election scheduled for Sept. 24.
The other one was Nathan Jordan v. Elections Systems and Software.
Jordan, a mayoral candidate who received 94 votes, alleges he and other candidates were left off electronic ballots in many precincts.
Jordan said that when he voted in the Dixie Pine Precinct, only he and Mayor Johnny DuPree’s names were on the ballot. Other voters also told the Hattiesburg American that their ballots did not contain the full menu of five candidates.
On the grounds that state election law only allows for a losing candidate to file suit against a winning candidate, Judge William Coleman dismissed Jordan’s suit in a pre-trial hearing held in early July.
