Billy Hudson says he would vote to expand program

Sen. Billy Hudson said he expects Gov. Phil Bryant to call a legislative special session on June 28 to address Medicaid.

Hudson, R-Purvis, shared the information during the Forrest County Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Thursday.

The state Legislature ended its 2013 session in early April at a partisan impasse over Medicaid. Democrats, pushing to expand the program per the Affordable Care Act, blocked passage of reauthorization and funding bills after the House Republican leadership refused to allow debate or a vote on expansion.

Without a reauthorization bill, the state’s Division of Medicaid will expire July 1.
