Gunn: Medicaid special session inevitable
House Speaker Philip Gunn says a special session on Medicaid is now a fait accompli after House Democrats for the second time in two days blocked passage of the agency’s budget.
Most observers expect Gov. Phil Bryant will call lawmakers into special session, probably in June, to reauthorize Medicaid and pass a budget. The program is set to expire June 30th.
The budget bill for Medicaid needed 60 votes to pass in reconsideration Monday. It only received 57 votes, with 50 against.
