Mississippi lawmakers pass education measures, still working on charter schools
As Mississippi lawmakers await a final deal on charter schools, they are reaching agreement on other significant education measures
House and Senate negotiators face an 8 p.m. Monday deadline to agree on a bill to widen Mississippi’s provisions for charter schools. But they filed agreements Monday on 13 other measures, having worked out differences between competing House and Senate versions.
“This year, we have worked hard to make meaningful improvements to our education system and to our children’s futures, and I thank the House and Senate conferees for approving my ‘Education Works’ agenda,” Gov. Phil Bryant said in a statement.
