State Senator Files Cell Phone Bill
A bill to keep you off your cell phone while driving is among the first to be filed this legislative session.
“It only provides that you use your cell phone if it’s a 911 call; or if you pull off the road; or if you’ve got a hands free device, you can talk to the dashboard,” explained State Senator Billy Hudson (R – Hattiesburg), author of the legislation.
He said his cell pone bill should be easy for police to enforce. “If they’ve got the phone in their hands and the car is moving, then they are violating the law.”
And the proposed penalties: “There’s a $500 fine, up to $500. And if it’s a violation in a wreck, the fine is up to a $1000.”
