Ronnie Musgrove: Obamacare by any other name…

Whoever originally coined the term “Obamacare’’ for the Affordable Care Act may live to regret their choice of words. The federal law that provides health care coverage to millions of Americans and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs is here to stay.

Why? Well, there is no question the president and his health care bill are about as popular in Mississippi as an out-of-coverage colonoscopy. Few states voted against the president’s re-election with such zest and fervor. But with the re-election of President Obama and a Democratic pick up of seats in the Senate, pretending “Obamacare” doesn’t exist is historically counterproductive.

There is a reason Social Security is not called “Roosevelt Security.” And even LBJ didn’t have the audacity to name Medicare “JohnsonCare.” The president’s opponents’ attempt at a pithy talking point will now forever remind historians exactly who was responsible for something that will soon become an integral part of the fabric of our society.
