Fisher: ‘I’m determined to hold BP accountable’

For 2½ years, Trudy Fisher’s job has run six or seven days a week and required constant travel across the Gulf states and to Washington, dealing with Mississippi’s recovery from the BP oil disaster.

Fisher, 52, director of the state Department of Environmental Quality, was designated by Gov. Phil Bryant as Mississippi’s natural resources trustee under the federal Oil Pollution Act to lead assessment of damages from the disaster and environmental recovery. She’s also leading Bryant’s team of state officials and local leaders developing plans for Mississippi’s share of the federal RESTORE Act, which directs most of BP fines to the affected Gulf states.
