State offers Lafayette County money for elections

State offers Lafayette County money for elections
Mississippi counties will share almost $1.1 million to help pay for their upcoming elections.

The money will help the state’s 82 counties pay for elections now that money provided by the federal government’s Help America Vote Act is running out, said Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.

“With funding from the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) diminishing, counties statewide face significant revenue shortfalls to conduct elections across the State,” Hosemann said. “This $1 million will help fill the gap left from the federal funding.”

The money comes from fees paid when filing certain types of documents with Hosemann’s office and, by law, must be spent on elections.
