New House maps draw fire

White Democratic lawmakers are pitted against each other, and the number of black voters packed in districts increases in a House redistricting plan.

Democrats allege the Republican-drawn plan is a blatant attempt to dilute black voting strength and create a super-majority, white Republican chamber.

Not so, Republicans say, defending the map unveiled Wednesday as fair and meeting U.S. Department of Justice guidelines.
