Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant may call special session on charter schools
Gov. Phil Bryant wants to hold a special session so state lawmakers can reconsider public charter school legislation.
A bill to broaden allowances for charter schools failed to pass the House Education Committee. The bill died by a 16-15 vote.
Bryant is considering holding a special legislative session within the current session to take another look at charter schools, which has been a major issue for Mississippi Republican lawmakers. But one delegation of Republicans from DeSoto County, who all serve on the House Education Committee, helped shoot down the bill because they said that was the wish of their constituents.
