Hoseman presents $10M for tidelands
GULFPORT — Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann presented the Department of Marine Resources and members of the Gulf Coast legislative delegation a check for $9,707,662 on Thursday. This is the largest amount ever returned for the benefit of Coastal residents from tidelands leases collected by the state.
“The tidelands fund has been a phenomenal asset to the Coast, with almost $10 million in recurring revenue,” said Hosemann. “We need to make sure this money stays here.”
Hosemann said $1 million of the tidelands money will go to the final payment on Deer Island. The state purchased all of the island for $10 million with the exception of 17 privately-owned acres. Hosemann said his office will work with DMR and the legislators to make the island available to the public.
