Gov.-elect Bryant is already ready to take the helm
THE DUST had barely settled on the voting results, and Gov.-elect Phil Bryant was already rolling up his sleeves and gathering his team. On the morning after Tuesday’s election, he was at the Capitol, addressing reporters and laying out his legislative agenda.
Following the high-profile Gov. Haley Barbour after eight years will not be easy. From the looks of things, though, Mr. Bryant is more than up for the job.
One challenge will be the office itself. Mr. Bryant is already well aware that the state’s constitution dictates a weaker governor, while awarding extraordinary power to the speaker and lieutenant governor (the office he currently holds).
