Mississippi Republicans not accustomed to all this power
OXFORD — Mississippi Republicans, flush with fresh faces giving them the first sweep of state government since Reconstruction, are catching their collective breath before diving into a legislative session in January sure to be unlike any in recent memory.
When the dust finally settled after Tuesday’s election, Republicans were left with a new governor, Phil Bryant; a new lieutenant governor, Tate Reeves, and a House speaker still to be determined.
“Our team has spent the last couple of months getting the Republican majority elected,” said Republican state Sen. Merle Flowers of Olive Branch.
“We’re going to let this win soak in.”
