GOP turning up HEAT on energy

The Republican Party has launched a new committee to promote GOP energy policies that proponents say will address rising energy prices, create thousands of new jobs, and enhance the nation’s national security.

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-California) has established the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), an effort to be co-chaired by Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-Illinois), Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R-Michigan), and Natural Resources Committee chairman Doc Hastings (R-Washington).

Representative Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas), a HEAT member, says the group hopes to demonstrate that House Republicans are on the side of small businesses and families who are increasingly harmed by record-high energy prices.

Other House Republicans participating in HEAT are: Marsha Blackburn (TN), Shelley Moore Capito (WV), Mike Conaway (TX), Steve Scalise (LA), Greg Walden (OR), Rick Berg (ND), Jeff Denham (CA), Cory Gardner (CO), Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA), Lynn Jenkins (KS), Devin Nunes (CA), Alan Nunnelee (MS), Pete Olson (TX), Ben Quayle (AZ), Martha Roby (AL), Phil Roe (TN), Steve Womack (AR), Jeff Duncan (SC), Jason Chaffetz (UT), Bill Flores (TX), Virginia Foxx (NC), John Shimkus (IL), and Bill Johnson (OH).
