Snowden – House redistricting vote at high noon

The Mississippi House of Representatives will vote on a redistricting plan for all 122 House seats on Friday, March 4, 2011. Joint Resolution 1 is expected to be taken up around noon, with a floor vote on final passage sometime in the afternoon. The expectation is that if the measure passes, it will be held on a motion to reconsider, which motion will be tabled during a planned and (relatively) rare Saturday morning session. The idea is to have the House plan adopted and irrevocably on the way to the Senate before House members adjourn and go home for the weekend.

The proposed 2011 redistricting map was released at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, and promptly was approved by the pertinent committees. A summary report and a redistricting plan components report were released at the same time as the proposed new map.
