LT. GOV. BRYANT REMARKS ABOUT BOND BILL PASSAGE
JACKSON – Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of authorizing additional state bonds:
“The passage of today’s amended bond bill causes great concern when looking at the state’s total bond indebtedness. This bond bill is too much for the state of Mississippi in these tough economic times. As I have said before, it is important for Mississippi to be prudent in creating additional debt while paying down our current financial obligations. I have been assured by the Senate Finance Chairman that, as the bond bill moves through the conference process, conferees will reduce the amount of the overall bond bill from its current form.”
Other:
According to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, the state is scheduled to pay debt service of $423,095,566 in fiscal 2011, which includes $274,830,000 in principal and $148,265,566 in interest. The state’s indebtedness as of Jan. 1 is $3,786,480,000.
