Old School for Blind property site of mixed-use proposal
A local development group may realize years of effort to transform the old Mississippi School for the Blind property into The District at Eastover, mixing an office building, homes, retailers and restaurants.
The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration will soon begin negotiations with The District Land Development Co. to sell 22 acres of state-owned property at the corner of the I-55 North frontage road and Eastover Drive.
If an agreement can be reached in the next few weeks, developers say they can start demolishing old buildings by late this summer.
Construction could start early next year and take 12 to 18 months.
