Mississippi public safety chief announces AG bid
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Steven Simpson said he has no immediate plans to step down from the job while pursuing a run for attorney general.
“Clearly at some point I’ll have to resign my job at the Department of Public Safety as commissioner. Right now, I don’t think that’s necessary,” Simpson said, speaking at a campaign stop in Jackson on Monday afternoon.
Simpson is running on the Republican ticket and would likely face off against Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, in November’s general election.
Simpson called himself the “most qualified candidate for attorney general in recent memory.”
