Experts: Mississippi digging out of recession
JACKSON — Mississippi’s economy is slowly recovering from the Great Recession of 2008, but it still lags the national average in growth, the state’s two top fiscal experts told legislators Thursday.
That means there will be more money, but not a lot, to spend in the state’s 2012 fiscal year that begins July 1.
“Signals remain mixed in the economy, but the good news is we’re recovering,” State Economist Darrin Webb told leading members of the House and Senate appropriations committees along with Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and House Speaker Billy McCoy, D-Rienzi.
