Priebus denies Barbour connection
Reince Priebus is pushing back against the narrative that he’s a Haley Barbour plant amid accusations that Barbour wants Priebus as RNC chair to further his own presidential ambitions. FrumForum’s Tim Mak reports:
For his part, Priebus has denied being anything of a proxy for Haley Barbour. “I’m not Haley’s choice, I don’t think that Haley has any horse in the race, and he’s made that pretty clear on the record,” Priebus told FrumForum earlier this week. Governor Barbour told the Washington Times in December that “I am not for anybody for chairman, and I do not expect to support anybody for chairman.”
Asked if the Barbours or their associates had supported him materially, Priebus told FrumForum, “not at all.”However, Mississippi National Committeeman Henry Barbour, Haley Barbour’s nephew, has publicly endorsed Priebus – which has led some to speculate that Priebus is Barbour’s choice.
