Tupelo officer cleared after removing kin from crash scene

TUPELO – Separate local and state investigations found no criminal wrongdoing in an incident that involved a high-ranking police officer who picked up his son after an accident, city officials said Wednesday.

“Errors in judgment” will result in unspecified internal disciplinary action against the officer, Mayor Jack Reed Jr. and Police Chief Tony Carleton said at a City Hall press conference.

The Tupelo Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division conducted its own investigation of the Nov. 27 accident in which the officer’s son lost control of his vehicle and ran into a building on Robert E. Lee Drive. No other person or vehicle was involved in the accident.
