The congressional election we just witnessed was an ugly reminder that politics can be nasty. Republicans saw an opportunity to regain control of the House and Senate. They attacked and the Democrats counter attacked.
Today, politicians and candidates everywhere are licking their wounds and wondering what just happened. Which leads us to wonder, are we a better community because candidates attack each other, rather than focusing on their records, their accomplishments, and their aspirations?
We think the answer is no. We think it’s time for somebody to stand up and say enough is enough. Our hope is that South Mississippi’s congressman will be that person. Coaches constantly tell their players when we work together as a team, we accomplish a lot more than if we’re constantly tearing each other apart.
