Now, entrenched party leaders reportedly want Mississippi’s governor back in the driver’s seat of the GOP political machine.
The question is whether he would accept the job again.
“I think the party elders nationwide would hand it to him if he wanted it,” Hinds County Republican Party Chairman Pete Perry said. “But I don’t see him doing that. He’s been there and done that.”
The Washington-based publication Politico recently reported that a handful of well-known Republicans plan to encourage Barbour to run for RNC chairman and forgo a campaign for president.
The publication said one of the nation’s best-known Republicans shared the “Draft Haley” plan with Politico.
