Ocean Springs alderman urged to recuse himself from budget vote

Ocean Springs Alderman Jerry Dalgo made a motion at Wednesday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting to approve the school board budget, which prompted a heated exchange.

“Are you really going to do that?” asked Alderman Matt McDonnell, who pointed out that Dalgo works for the Ocean Springs School District. McDonnell said he didn’t think it was appropriate for Dalgo to even vote on the issue.

“I’m comfortable with it,” Dalgo said.

Dalgo said that Alderman Greg Denyer, who is a retired principal from Ocean Springs Middle School, had voted on school board issues when he was a school district employee.
