Desoto Times – Children should have a public pre-kindergarten option

In Mississippi, where politics is the state sport and comparisons are often made with football, I was heartened to see Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and others at least beginning to study the concept of a public pre-kindergarten program in the Magnolia State.

Let’s hope they don’t punt.

Statistics don’t lie. The annual Kids Count report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, released Tuesday, offers some grim statistics.

According to the report, Mississippi ranked at the bottom nationally in 7 of 10 categories.
