AP – Barbour to sue Choctaw’s

JACKSON — Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says he’s pursuing legal action to block a gaming development proposed by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

In a letter to Attorney General Jim Hood on Monday, Barbour said he would seek outside counsel to pursue litigation.

Barbour had asked Hood to look into the matter in June. Hood responded last week, saying there were no legal grounds to halt the development.

The tribe has plans for a casino in Jones County on tribal land near Laurel. The plans call for a 27,000-square-foot building with about 500 to 700 slot machines and something akin to a fast-food restaurant.
