At private lunch, Barbour knocks RNC
The Republican Governors Association has had a good year in part by taking advantage of a perception among big donors that Michael Steele’s Republican National Committee can’t be trusted with their money. The tension between the organizations has also occasionally spilled out into politics, as in a flap around the New York Governor’s race.
The competition is usually left unstated, however, but RGA Chairman Haley Barbour spoke openly of it at a lunch for the RGA at the American Beverage Association today, a source in the room tells me.
“I had to raise the RGA budget by $10 million because the RNC is in such bad shape,” he said.
